30 for 30 Recap

Well friends, that's it. I'm finished with 30 for 30. It's been eye opening and I've learned so much. I have to say, it's also been fun. Everyone can learn more about their personal style by remixing this way. Even if you only try this for one week, you should try it. I've always thought I was adventurous with my clothes but I think I need to spice things up even more.

Things I learned:
  • Always include color in your wardrobe.
  • Playing it safe is easy but not always best.
  • Accessories can make an outfit. I already knew this but 30 for 30 drilled it home.
  • Modeling is much harder than it looks. I need to listen to Tyra Banks more about finding my light and smiling with my eyes.
  • Looking for new outfit combinations is something I'll do more often.
  • I love having a huge closet. After this I've realized I could live with much less (but I'd be a little bored).
  • Layering is key to remixing.
  • The olive cargo pants aren't my most flattering pants.
  • I'm so glad that I go thrifting. Some of my favorite finds have come from thrift stores and resales.
  • My love (bordering on obsession) for all types of lip color isn't silly. It makes me look fresher and better in pictures.
  • I'm not as critical of myself as I was when I started this adventure.
  • I need a new camera.
  • My Honey is incredible and awesome. She didn't even complain about taking my picture every day (while I scrutinized them and asked for just one more). I couldn't have done this without her. That's cheating, I already know she is incredible and awesome. THANKS HONEY!

I thought it might be fun to see how many times I wore each item. This is very telling of my favorites but also of the easiest items to mix. The items that got the most wear are bold and in blue.

Music is Life - A 30 for 30 Playlist

As you know each post title in 30 for 30 was the title of a song. Some were chosen because I love the song, some were chosen because it was the one I could find that had words in the title, in addition to the number. It would have been so boring if my post titles were:  One, Two, 3, Four, 5... I found tons of songs with just the number as the title. I decided that I wanted more. More interesting titles, more meaning. Searching was a challenge and fun. I found some great songs that I'd never heard. Some have special meaning. It made me laugh when they ended up being perfect for the day or outfit.

I hope you'll find some new songs to love and enjoy. Each song title contains a link to a video and/or lyrics.

30 Something

I kind of thought I'd finish 30 for 30 off with a big bang, by dressing up for date night on Saturday. As you can tell, that didn't happen. We decided on a great but quiet date night at home with on demand movies. Two great movies were on the bill, Love and Other Drugs and The Kids are All Right. They both really spoke to me.

Sweater - Target, Jeans - Lane Bryant, Shoes - Target,
Necklace and Earrings - Art Show, Nail Polish - Essie Steel-ing the Scene
It's been raining here all day so I spent most of it, reading and doing laundry. A nice relaxing day was in order and I really enjoyed the quiet time.

29 Palms

Admittedly, I'm a jeans girl on the weekends. I LOVE jeans. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE them! I really enjoy dressing up but jeans are one of my first loves. Things have changed over the years and jeans are acceptable in many places, which I am thrilled about. I really like a pair of jeans with a tuxedo jacket and heels. Even though it's Saturday, I decided that my last two 30 for 30 outfits shouldn't include jeans. This easy skirt fit the bill for comfy weekend wear.

Cashmere T - Liz Claiborne, Skirt - thrifted, Boots - asos, Belt - Lane Bryant,
Earings - Marshalls, Necklace - Self-Made, Bracelet - Craft Show, Ring - Marshalls

I should have kept my sunglasses on. I'm going to need extra eye cream tonight from all of the squinting in these pictures.

There is still a bit of a chill in the air so I threw on this jeans jacket (see I got them into the outfit) and scarf. The jacket isn't part of 30 for 30 but it's exempt because it's outer wear.

No Clause 28

Friday was a sunny and almost warm day. I am so ready for warm weather, any glipse of it thrills me. The simple fact that it was Friday made me happy and inspired some silly pictures.

Shirt - Target, Cashmere T - Liz Claiborne, Trouser Jeans - Old Navy, Boots - asos,
Belt - Target, Hat - Vera Wang for Kohls, Earrings - ?, Bracelets - Craft Show Occoquan

This is me kicking 30 for 30's ass.  I'm planning on finishing up on Saturday with two outfits. A day outfit and a date night outfit. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Twenty-Seven Strangers

The beauty of 30 for 30 is coming up with combinations that you wouldn't normally put together. I don't know if I would have worn this dress with this shirt, without the challenge. Now this dress has taken on a whole new identity. It went from polished, dressy to tough, dressed down.

Dress - asos, Shirt - Target, Boots - Two Lips via DSW, Tights - Lane Bryant,
Bracelets - Nordstrom Rack, Kohls, Saks off 5th, Rings - gift, JewelMint

Was It 26

As I dressed this morning, a debate raged in my head; "Blazer? No Blazer?".  I engaged in this debate the whole time I was getting ready, through hair, make-up, and everything else. I think you all should decide. What do you think? Blazer? No Blazer?

Cashmere T - Liz Claiborne, Dress - Target, Boots - Torrid, Belt - Talbots Outlet,
Earrings - Penelope, Necklaces - Cookie Lee and Vintage, Watch - Target, Rings - Tiffany, Taxco, gift

Blazer - thrifted

That's me celebrating the downward side of the week. After today, I only have four outfits left in 30 for 30. I'm really excited to wear some different items, including the skirts I made when my Mom was visiting. The skirts we made are hanging next to the 30 for 30 items, in my closet. They are gentle reminder of a great week with Mom.

Twenty Five to Midnight

This is definitely one of my favorite 30 for 30 outfits. It came about quite organically. I knew I wanted to wear the skirt and jacket.  The rest was added piece by piece. I'm really pleased with the quirky touch that the tights and fur collar bring. I wish I could have taken pictures before work. My hair looked much better at that time and some daylight would have added a better quality.

Jacket - Torrid, Sweater - Isaac Mizrahi for Target, Skirt - thrifted, Boots - Dolce Vita for Target,
Collar - gift (QVC), Sash - Marshalls, Tights - avenue, Bracelets - F21, thrifted and Target,
Watch - Loehmann's, Earrings - gift, Lipstick - Revlon Candy Pink

My sister teases me when I wear this collar. She says I should not be wearing muppet fur that it's cruel. I don't think PETA has a muppet division and that always makes me laugh. I can't help it. I fell in love with this collar the first time I saw it online. I even mentioned it in a wish list post several months ago. Lucky for me, my Mom got it for me for my birthday.

My Honey and I were being silly and kept trying to take picture of me balancing on one leg. She took about 6 pictures because I have no balance at all and my leg kept dropping as the picture snapped.  In my defense the shutter speed on the camera is painfully slow. This one is for you Honey.
