Frugal Fashion Friday - My Recent Thrift Store Haul

My love of thrifting is no secret.  I think it's an amazing way to find one of a kind items without breaking the bank. You know the old saying, "One girl's trash is another girl's treasure."  Yeah I know the original saying used "man" but this is Real Girl Runway. I have hit the jackpot lately on my thrift store runs.

For the last few years, My Honey and I have been giving homemade gift baskets to friends and family for the Holidays.  We spend the week before Christmas making all sorts of goodies and then assemble decorated baskets to give.  This year, all of the baskets we are using came from the thrift store!  We got unique baskets and bins for just a few dollars a piece.

The first weekend in December my sister and I went to a fun event at Goodwill in Maryland.  My friend the DC Goodwill Fashionista hosted a Holiday get together. We got to shop the store before it was open to the public. My sister got a pair of suede pants for only $7!  I found a lavender boucle jacket (so Chanel) for $6 and  a vintage leather and suede Coach bag (80's vintage) for only $19!! It's a style that they don't make any longer, which makes the find even more exciting.

When decorating for the Holidays this year, I decided to change it up a bit.  We don't have a large tree. We use a fun table top, silver and fiber optic tree.  It's perfect for us and we love the colors.  The colorful tree inspired me to decorate the house in a blue and silver palette this year.  I went to Goodwill and found a bunch of mismatched candlesticks and a tray that I'm going to paint silver.

Once I'm finished with the decorating, I'll do a little post to show you how I've incorporated all of my Goodwill finds.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday (#2)

Awkward

1. Trying to give my Honey extra kisses and be flirty while my Mom is staying with us for the week.

Awesome

1. Sewing lessons from my Mom and making two new skirts in one week!
2. Ghiradelli Dark Chocolate Brownie Mix and the best brownies made from a box, ever.
3. The look on my Honey's face when she took the first bite of the Ghiradelli brownie.
4. My Uncle's quick recovery from a health scare.

Awkward and Awesome Thursday (#1)

One of my favorite daily reads is Sydney's (and Tyson's) blog, The Daybook. She's hysterically funny and takes amazing pictures. One of her weekly items is "Awkward and Awesome Thursday!"  It's always hysterical and I love reading the post every week.

I thought I'd add my blog to her list and create my own Awesome and Awkward Thursday posts. Here goes the first one...

Awkward or Awesome? You decide.

Awkward

1. Having lunch with a coworker and missing my mouth with my french fry so ketchup slides across my cheek.
2. Sending a very late thank you note to my Uncle and Aunt and getting it back in the mail because I forgot to write their address on the envelope. Now it's even later.
3. Trying to quickly move the teen novel from the front seat of my car as I unlocked the door for a friend.
4. Having someone call out my name to say hello and not having a clue how I know them or who they are. But still smiling like they are a long lost friend.
5. Unpacking my latest purchase of new boots as my Honey asks if I’m going to stop buying shoes anytime soon (answer: “No Honey. Who do you think you’re with anyway?").

Awesome

1. Starting 30 for 30, posting every day and getting great comments from my awesome friends and family.
2. Having dinner with my cousin, catching up and getting free dessert from the coolest waiter ever.
3. My Honey asking me to go on a date with her.
4. Sunshine after all that snow and rain.
5. My Mom coming for a two week visit to give me sewing lessons.
