Frugal Fashion Friday - Fashion of Goodwill 2014

One of my favorite yearly fashion events is the Fashion of Goodwill Runway show and pop-up shop. It's a fun night of fashion, shopping, and socializing. The best part is that it all benefits the employment and training programs of Goodwill of Greater Washington. This year the theme was "Let's Get to Work" and highlighted some of the frugal and stylish work related fashion to be found at Goodwill stores. The event was held at the Marriott Marquis in DC. Many of the employees that work at the hotel were part of a cooperative job training initiative between Goodwill and Marriott!

 This was my outfit for the evening. If you follow me on Instagram, you know I wore these pink pants and the tank to work. I swapped my jacket, shoes and jewelry for some that were a little more evening wear inspired. I had a blast with friends and fellow bloggers, Brea of What I Wore Tip to Toe, Alison of Wardrobe Oxygen, Vivi of Heart, Print and Style, Alison of DC Celine, Whitney of Whitney Nic James and of course the DC Goodwill Fashionista!

The team that puts together the show, does a great job of styling Goodwill fashion for the runway. I loved many of the looks that they put together. One of my favorite parts of the evening is the pop-up shop. Goodwill pulls clothing, shoes and accessories from their stores all over the DC area. There were so many pieces I wanted to take home. I had to keep myself in check.

I scored a tweed jacket from Talbots for $6.98 and this t-shirt. It was shown during the runway show on a male model and I just had to have it. After the show they brought out some of the pieces from runway. My friend, the DC Goodwill Fashionista and I, stalked the racks and I grabbed it. I'm sure I will be wearing it this weekend.

I've been fortunate to find amazing items at Goodwill stores over the years. It's a great way to spend an afternoon. I have shopped Goodwill stores as far away as Florida. My favorite stores in the DC area are in Alexandria, Arlington, and Falls Church. Fashion of Goodwill 2014 Gala - Join Me!

If you live in the DC area and would love to have a fun evening out of fashion, shopping, fun and charity, come out and join me on Wednesday evening. Goodwill of Greater Washington is hosting their annual Fashion of Goodwill Gala at the Marriott Marquis in DC. I always have a blast at this event.

There will be a fantastic runway show featuring fashion selected exclusively from Goodwill stores in the DC area. You will also have the chance to purchase great fashion selected from DC area stores in their pop-up shop. Last year I found an adorable sequin top that still had the tags and an almost new leather Coach bag that I gave as a Christmas gift. The best part of the entire evening is that the proceeds benefit Goodwill's employment and training programs. Shopping for a good cause? I'm in! I hope you'll join me. This year Goodwill of Greater Washington is auctioning off over thirty of the looks from the fashion show! There will be some major designer labels (Dior and Valentino, anyone?!) available for sale. Fashion for a Cause

You all know I'm a huge fan of thrift store shopping. In the DC area, some of my favorite stores are Goodwill stores. Many of them have a great selection and are well organized. It makes the shopping experience enjoyable and fun. On Saturday, September 7th, I was thrilled to be able to help out with the grand opening of the newest DC Goodwill store in Dale City, Virginia. There was a fun grand opening event and I helped at the DIY craft table. I thought I would share some fun pictures from the day.

I was fortunate enough to meet the great staff at the store as well as shoppers like Ashley. I love her casual but chic outfit. It's so on trend and fashionable. She also scored some great purchases during the grand opening.

Good will is hosting their annual Fashion of Goodwill Runway Show & Gala on Tuesday, September 24, 6pm - 9pm at the Artisphere in Arlington. I will be there covering this fantastic event for RGR. I'd love for you to join me. Tickets are still available and all of the proceeds go to Goodwill's work in job training. Goodwill offers assistance with job training, placement and other services to people who are facing challenges with employment. In addition to the fashion show, there will also be a trunk show with lots of fantastic fashion available for purchase. The items are curated from Goodwill stores in the DC area. I hope to see you there!

DC Fashion Show - fashion:district Spring/Summer 2011

On Thursday evening, I had the pleasure of attending my first DC area fashion show. It was staged by ReadysetDC at the Longview Gallery.  There was great music, cocktails and some time to mix and mingle before the show.  I attended with Alliscon of Wardrobe Oxygen and we met up with Jill of Presenza and Keri of A Diva State of Mind.  Allison and I were lucky enough to grab a spot right by the runway and get some pictures.

The show featured seven local designers. 



Of the seven designers, the fashion girl in me loves SAINTCHiC for their cool cut outs and avant garde esthetic.  I also love Ginger Root Design. Their clothes are eco-fashion and chic.

Local Fashion

Tonight I'm attending the fashion: district Spring/Summer 2011 show.  I'm really excited to see this show by local designers.  I'm even meeting up with a few of my fellow DC area fashion bloggers. I'll have lots of pictures and news for you about the DC fashion scene tomorrow. Stay tuned...
