Music and Sun

On Saturday I attended my first music festival of the summer. I love festivals. You get the chance to see and hear lots of bands, in one place and usually for a bargain price. We went to the very first Ragtime Carnival at Pocahontas State Park in Chesterfield, Virginia (Richmond area). The festival was organized by one of my favorite bands, Carbon Leaf. The band and their music are very special to me. One of the first dates that {msL} and I went on was to a Carbon Leaf show. We also exited the church and our wedding ceremony to their song, Life Less Ordinary. The festival was two days (Friday evening and Saturday) but we only attended Saturday (Boo work). Sixteen bands played over the two day festival and there were two stages (main and a smaller acoustic stage). The organizers timed things so it was possible to hear all of the bands. We couldn't have asked for better weather. It was a beautiful day, warm in the sun and a slight breeze at times. There was no rain in sight. Comfort was the order of the day for my outfit. I chose a simple dress, a hat for sun protection, my trusty Birks and my new NECTAR sunnies.

Dress - Kohl's (No longer available), Shoes - Birkenstock (old style, similar here and here), Hat - Target (men's small), Sunglasses - c/o NECTAR, Bracelets - Stella and Dot (c/o Kristin Biggs), bracelet c/o People VIP and Klout, backup hairbands Goody double wear, and of course my band to buy beer. Earrings - gift, Rings - wedding band and MD Renaissance festival vendor (mid 90's)

There had been rain for two days before the festival. I was a bit worried the field might be a mud pit. I wore ankle boots into the show and once we were settled, I swapped them out for my sandals. I took my trusty bag (it doubles as my beach bag during the summer) with sunscreen, a few toiletries, bug repellent, and a collapsible water bottle.

On top of the perfect weather, the great company (I went with {msL} and my sister), the music was incredible. My sister said it best when she said, "At other festivals, there have been a few bands that I didn't love. That's not the case today. Every band and artist was fantastic. I loved them all!"

On our way (8am), coffee was required.

There were so many memorable moments from the day. I loved the easy going nature of the festival. The artists walked around the grounds, talked to fans and listened to other bands. I got to meet Terry Clark of Carbon Leaf! We share a birthday.

Terry posing with me before his final set.
I also got to meet Sarah Blacker. I'd never gotten to hear her play live before. She even thanked my sister and I for dancing during her set. She so talented and the coolest lady! Emerson Hart (founder of Tonic) played "If You Could Only See", acoustic. It was a nice surprise, since he's a solo artist now and doesn't play that song often. I loved hearing Crystal Bowersox live. She is such a soulful singer songwriter. Finding new favorites is one of the best parts of a festival. Delta Rae and The Wild Feathers are definitely on that list.

Carbon Leaf opening and closing the day.
Thanks to NECTAR Sunglasses, I got to shield my eyes from the sun all day. Their company motto is "Enjoy the Sweet Life".  Saturday was definitely the sweet life. It couldn't have been better. I had never heard of NECTAR before they offered me a pair of their shades to try. I immediately loved the classic shape and the mirrored lenses. They're seriously the lightest pair of sunglasses I've ever worn. Lots of times I will develop a headache from shades that are too tight or too heavy. I wore them all day and that didn't happen. Their prices are so reasonable (right up a real girl's alley). $20 for their standard pairs and $30 for polarized. You can also opt for their Fusion style, where you can swap out the ear pieces for $35. I am wearing the AMETHYST style. I'd love to also snag the RAYVE or the STOKE.

Good news for you! As an RGR reader, you can order your very own pair of NECTAR sunglasses, through this link. Use the code lovenectar at check out and you'll get 10% off of your order! Did I mention that shipping is free!?

NOTE: I was provided a pair of NECTAR sunglasses for review. My review is honest and the opinions expressed here are my own.

Loving Now - Black Accents

I've always loved black more than brown. Rich browns are beautiful but I guess it's the rocker chick in me that loves black. It's tough, classy, a neutral, and all round awesome. My purchases and go to items lately are no exception.

Black Accents

This veiled beanie was a holiday DIY project for me. It was super easy and I love the results. There is a post coming soon. I snagged this scarf last spring at Target. It's not available online any longer but I've seen it in stores. It looks similar to an Alexander McQueen scarf that costs hundreds more and I love it. These 3.1 Phillip Lim sunglasses are my new faves. They were a super sale buy from Neiman Marcus Last Call ($60, originally $225). They will have to be my substitute for the Pashli. This Stella & Dot bracelet is one of my new favorites. It's in heavy rotation. I'm lusting after these Zara boots. They're fantastic but I'm not sure that they are in my budget. I'm still debating. My mom gave me this ASOS jacket for my birthday. I love it and only put it away when I need a super heavy coat. It reminds me of the jacket that Poppy Montgomery's character wears on Unforgetable. A nude eye with black liner is my go to makeup. This Revlon ColorStay pen draws a precise line and lasts all day.

Fall 2012 Runway Trends - Menswear

Sorry for the lack of posting. I've been and am still a bit under the weather.

There are only two trends left in our Fall 2012 Runway Trends series.  Today it's one of my all time faves, Menswear.  I love borrowing from the boys.  It's fun to wear oxfords and an occasional tie.  As much as I love dresses and skirts, pants are always comfortable.  The trick is wearing the menswear trend in a feminine way.  You can embrace the trend without looking like you are trying to be a man.

Fall 2012 Runway Fashion Trends - Menswear

When I am embracing menswear, I think it's best to start with the basics. You can never go wrong with a great fitting pair of pinstripe pants. A basic white button up shirt is a staple for menswear style as well. A tailored blazer can be worn with dress pants as well as with jeans or shorts. It's a polished piece that will pull your entire outfit together.

If you just want to add a touch of menswear, go for accessories. I own several pairs of oxfords and love them as an alternative to sneakers.  The new crop comes in tons of colors and styles, like this metallic pair with blue soles from Target.  If you love heels, you can grab a pair of heeled loafers or oxfords.  They work with skirts or pants.  A little over a year ago I was introduced to Ginger Root Designs.  They have a great little boutique in DC or you can check out their online shop.  These ladies create the most fantastic upcycled clothing and menswear style accessories for women.  I'm in love with their Lady Ties.  These fantastic accessories are created from old and damaged men's ties and sometimes vintage buttons.  Not into ties?  Throw on a newsboy cap or grab a cross body satchel.  This one, in oxblood, by The Leather Satchel Company has a top handle which gives it a briefcase feel.  Top it off with a large men's style wrist watch.  It lends that menswear feel without being overpowering.

With just a few additions, it's easy to sport the menswear trend.

Inspired By Pinterest - Saw Pinned Conquered Link Up

I love a good DIY and get inspiration from all sorts of places. Last week I got an email from Amy of At the Pink of Perfection and fellow CapFABB member. She said she was going to be hosting a new link up for folks who make things from Pinterest called Saw Pinned Conquered. Well you know I had to join in.  This week I thought I'd show a recap of the items inspired by Pinterest, that I have created. To be honest, I didn't have time for a new project this week. In the coming weeks, I'll show you new items during the link up.

Minty Shades - Made using nail polish

A Gold Cup/Derby Hat - Inspired by British fascinators from Pinterest

Glitter Mani
Mercury Glass Candle Holders for Our Wedding - Using spray paint and thrift store glass

Metallic Skull - dupe for a $349 skull

I'm constantly finding new items to create and fun ideas on Pinterest. Pinning is addictive and my idea wish list far outweighs the items I've created.  I'm sure I'll be making more soon.  Be sure to check out the items that Amy and the other ladies have created on At the Pink of Perfection.

Frugal Fashion Friday - Beach Trip Style

Today's Friday's Fancies challenge is beach style.  I knew I could come up with great style on a budget for our upcoming beach trip to the Outer Banks of North Carolina.  It's an awesome family trip that I look forward to every year.  I try not to over pack but still have great style.  Today's outfit fits that bill in full retro style and for a bargain.

Beach Chic

I've had a retro style swimsuit on my list for a few summers.  This year, I might actually buy one.  A retro halter suit with runching is flattering to all body types. I never hit the beach without a great hat.  It's stylish, I don't have to think about my hair and it's a great way to keep wrinkles at bay by protecting my face from the sun. A few simple pieces of jewelry are it for me at the beach.  Stud earrings like these from Stella & Dot are pretty and won't get in the way when you are active.  The stretch bracelet is easy to slide off before you get in the water.  Fun retro shades are definitely on the bill.  I love sunglasses and own way too many pairs but these are only $5.99 from GirlPROPS.  You can afford to own more than one pair.  I always take a book, my towel, water and extra sunscreen to the beach, this sequin bag is perfect for a fun way to tote your stuff.  Cute sandals and pretty toe nails are always on the bill for my beach trips.  I love this pink and orange shimmery polish. The name cracks me up: Shrimp on the Barbie, Spoiled by Wet n' Wild.

You've read my tirades before about using sunscreen and protecting your skin. I look for bargains everywhere but I never skimp when it comes to sunscreen, especially for my face. I can replace a suit or pair of flip flops but once you get wrinkles or melanoma, you can't go back. I've taken the Sun Savvy pledge and wear sunscreen every day and even more at the beach. Most people don't apply sunscreen correctly or often enough.  This site has great tips. Don't worry you'll still get a great tan.

Nothing on this list is over $40!  Great bargain style finds for any beach.

Do you have beach or pool plans?  It's supposed to be over 100 all weekend here in DC.  I think I'll be trying out my beach style this weekend.

Poolside and Oceanfront - Bargain Style Picks

We are hosting a backyard grad pool party next weekend and of course I'm already thinking about my outfit.  As one of the hosts, I want to look stylish, a little dressy but be comfortable.  We'll be hosting lots of parties this summer and we have our summer beach trip in July.  I wanted my selections to last through the summer and beyond.  Of course, I go for quality as well as a good price.

Poolside and Oceanfront Style

  1. Cover-up -  I usually choose a sarong but I'd love to grab a fun new maxi cover up. This one is colorful and pretty but not too heavy.
  2. Earrings - Big earrings are a fun way to wear jewelry to the beach or pool without it weighing you down. These coral inspired gold earrings from Stella & Dot fit with the beach vibe.
  3. Sun hat - I love large brimmed hats for the beach and pool. They look great, hide your beach hair, and keep the sun off of your face.  I have a had from the San Diego hat company that I've owned for more than 10 years.  I'd love to get one in another color.
  4. Bracelet - I don't wear tons of jewelry to the beach or pool but this stretch version from Stella & Dot will slide off easily before you jump in the water.
  5. Swimsuit - I've never been a bikini girl so this retro suit is perfect for me.  It's sexy but covers in a great way.  It's available is sizes 2 - 26!
  6. Beach bag - I don't need a bag when I run out to the backyard pool but it's a must for our vacation.  I LOVE our LL Bean canvas bags.  They are affordable, stylish and indestructible.
  7. Flip flops - I confess that rubber flip flops are one of my least favorite type of footwear.  I do wear them when I am running around the pool or going to beach. I don't have to worry about sand or dirt and I can rinse them off easily. The beading on this pair give them a bit of flair.
  8. Sunscreen - I'm a bit pushy with my family and friends about using sunscreen. Nothing ruins a vacation faster than sunburn. I also know people who have had skin cancer scares.  Also, I wear it without fail.  I love being outside and in order to protect myself and ensure that I preserve the great skin I was born with, sunscreen is mandatory. Neutrogena products are some of my favorite. Last summer I also fell in love with Supergoop wipes. They are towelettes coated in sunscreen. Genius!
  9. Sunglasses - I'm a bit of a slut when it comes to sunglasses. I love them and own way too many. My designer pairs are my favorites but they don't go to the beach with me.  I take a pair that I can wear into the water and not care if they get scratched in the sand.  This pair from GirlPROPS is only $4.99!
What are you picks for staying stylish in the sun and by the water?

DIY Update - Gold Cup Hat Winner!!!

My cousin Brittany and I worked together to create one of my favorite DIYs yet, her Virginia Gold Cup hat. This past Saturday was the Virginia Gold Cup and the hat contest.  Fellow DC bloggers Liz of So Much to Smile About (co-founder of CapFABB), Caitlin of Style Within Reach and Makeda of Glamazon Diaries were the judges.

I'm so excited because Brittany was one of the winners!!  Doesn't she look fantastic!?  Her hat is definitely the stand out but then again, I'm a little biased.  She's also wearing a necklace that I made.

Frugal Fashion Friday - Off to the Races

Today's Frugal Fashion Friday centers on the parties this weekend for the Virginia Gold Cup and the Kentucky Derby. It was one of the options for today's Friday's Fancies.  A huge part of these events are the hats and outfits worn by attendees.  Two weekends ago my cousin and I created her hat for the Gold Cup (she'll be attending this weekend).  It was a fun DIY project. I decided to create an outfit surrounding the hat we created.  I selected some frugal options for girls on a budget.

Clockwise from the top center

I won't be attending any of the Gold Cup and Derby events myself this weekend. My Honey and I are going to be chaperones for a local Gay Straight Alliance prom this weekend, instead. I'm really excited to help out the kids and support such a fantastic cause.  So many kids can't attend their proms with the person they choose because of fear, bullying or school regulations.  If you know a kid who needs support and help, please be there for them. If you aren't sure how to help you can check out these great resources.

Whatever your plans, I hope you have a fantastic weekend.

DIY - Saturday Night Gold Cup Hat Edition

About a week ago my cousin, Brittany sent me a tweet asking me to help her with a hat for the Virginia Gold Cup Races.  It's a big event in the DC area each spring.  The Gold Cup Races are steeplechase races and a big draw for horse lovers, racers and breeders.  One of  the biggest draw for many of those attending is the party and tailgating surrounding the races.  Part of that party atmosphere includes everyone wearing their best preppy and party outfits and many of the ladies wear hats. There is even a contest for the best hat.  Fellow blogger and CapFABB founder Liz (So Much to Smile About) is a judge this year. Many ladies purchase hats but my cousin always makes her own.  Some of the ladies are very classic but Brittany loves going over the top. Her hat last year was made of huge flowers and feathers.  We've been pulling inspiration and posting it on Pinterest on a board she created titled Derby Hats. We decided that a DIY day and evening was called for and flavored martinis would be involved.

These two hats inspired us...
We took a trip to Michaels to find supplies for the hat.  We debated about purchasing a hat to use as the base and decided to create our own and put the cap on a headband.  This would make it easier for her to wear and to manage during the day.  Also, she wouldn't have to attach the hat using hat pins or elastic. Originally, Brittany wanted white.  I loved the sweeping feathers of the blue and red Philip Treacy hat but since she will be the one wearing the hat, I defaulted to her on color and big decisions.  Unfortunately, we didn't find the kind of white feathers we wanted. We did find some great feather clusters and some very large peacock tail feathers (the ones without the typical peacock "eye feather". We also decided to create a base hat using felt and gold duck tape. This would make for a sturdy but pretty base.

Supplies (we didn't use the silver reeds)

SUPPLIES

  • Five feather clusters (two brown and off white, three blue and green with peacock feathers)
  • Long peacock tail feathers.
  • Peacock eye feathers
  • felt (with adhesive backing)
  • Gold duct tape (Duck Brand)
  •  thin plastic headband
  • glue gun and glue sticks
  • scissors
  • wire cutters
First we created the base using an oval piece of felt and duct tape.  We created a duct tape sheet (how to here) to give the hat thickness.  Then we measured the felt for her head and cut the felt and sheet.  We used one oval piece of felt and two pieces of the sheet. The sticky side of the felt was attached to one of the sheets.  Then I sealed it all together on the edges using duct tape.  I cut a small slit in one edge about 1/3 of the way into the oval and bent the oval to overlap in on itself. Then I taped it for form a curved cap.

You can see how the cap is curved.

Each feather cluster had a single wire stem. We clipped them, to shorten them and pushed them through cap and taped them on the back side.  Then I glued each of them to make sure they were secure. We did this for each of the five clusters and let them cool in between. Then we attached three peacock eye feathers on the front of the cap as a focal point. The feathers sit toward the front of the cap and are tilted upward.

Before attaching the long feathers, we decided to attached the cap to the head band and have Brittany try it out. She wasn't sure she wanted the long feathers. Using small strips of duct tape, I secured the cap to the headband.  Since the hat is tilted to the right, the grips on the left side of the headband will be very useful in keeping the band in place.

We tried out the long feather in a couple of spots and decided that we loved them.  We clipped the stems to ensure they didn't hang the opposite side of the hat.  Then we attached them using hot glue in a fan like configuration.

Beautiful!

Here is the finished product.  It's over the top and definitely not an every day hat but it's perfect for The Gold Cup. It's fun and this hat will be admired.  I'm sure people will want to try it on. It was such a fun project and turned out much better than we'd envisioned. UPDATE: The hat was a winner!

Of course we couldn't brave a DIY evening without cocktails.  I concocted a great low cal cocktail recipe for blood orange martinis.

Blood Orange Martinis

Two shots of vodka or more if you like, (I use the good stuff.)
3-4 oz Trop 50 Red Orange juice
juice from 1/2 of a lime
juice from 1/2 of a Cara Cara Orange
splash of margarita mix

Mix together in a shaker with ice and pour into a martini glass.

WW pts - 8 (7 of the points come from vodka.  If you only use 1/2 the vodka it will only be 5 points).
Approximately - 168 calories (that is counting the fresh lime and cara cara orange juices).

Did you do anything fun this weekend?

And In My Heart You'll Always Stay Forever Young

Isn't it the goal of most women to age gracefully and look younger than we are?  Well it's definitely mine.  We have lots of options today. I joke about plastic surgery with my friends but frankly, it scares me and Botox really scares me. It's everyone's right to choose what they want for themselves but I don't think those things are for me. I prefer to work on prevention so that as I  get older people will always be guessing my age. I don't mind telling people how old I am.  I've earned every bit of these 44 years.  I used to think a tan made me look young and healthy.  Boy was I wrong.  Healthy skin makes me look young and healthy.  Some of you have asked what I do to take care of my skin and about the products I use.  Here are the details.

Lucky for me, I was given good genes. My mom has beautiful skin.  She has never worn much makeup and she's not one for sunning herself.  I made some bad choices in my teens and twenties and when I was growing up, we thought SPF 4 was mega sunscreen.  Because of that I've started to get some brown spots on my nose.  Those show up in your 30s and 40s because of the sunburns you got in your earlier years.  Those long days at the beach and the pool have caught up with me. I go to the dermatologist and am using products to even out those spots. Now I work constantly on prevention.  For the past 20 years, I've stuck to a simple philosophy,  wear sunscreen every day, take my make up off every night, moisturize and protect my skin when I'm in the sun.  Good genes are great but they don't replace taking care of your skin.

Wear Sunscreen
Every day before I apply my make-up (which also contains SPF), I apply moisturizer or a combo of moisturizer and foundation with an SPF of at least 25.  I sit in an office all day but I go out at lunch and drive in my car.  You'd be surprised at how much sun exposure you get on an average day.

Wash My Face Before Bed (Take off my make up)
Cleansing your skin is so important to it's health.  Even if you aren't a make-up junky like I am, your face collects dirt and oil during the day.  Washing your face nightly helps new cells to grow and your skin to look fresh.  Exfoliating every few days is also important. Exfoliation removes dead skin cells, allowing your moisturizer to reach your dryer skin plump those cells. When I teach skin care classes, I use a jar just like this to demonstrate skin growth.

This jar is like the layers of your skin

Your firm new skin cells are like grapes. They are full of moisture and they are plump.  As they get older and more dry they start to look like raisins. When they die completely they become like cornflakes. If you apply moisturizer on top of the corn flake layer it may soak down a little between the flakes but it won't get to the dry skin cells (raisins) to help moisturize them. They will dry out faster and become like cornflakes.  When you exfoliate, the moisturizer goes directly on those dry skin cells. There are amazing products available like the Clarisonic Mia but you can also use something as simple as a regular wash cloth.  Using your regular cleanser, just scrub lightly in a circular motion.  You only need to exfoliate every few days.  If your skin is sensitive, doing it more often can cause irritation.

Moisturize
Now that you've washed your face and exfoliated, apply moisturizer.  I moisturize morning and evening.  If you're prone to breakouts, choose an oil free option.  For those with sensitive skin, you can select a moisturizer that is fragrance free and made for sensitive skin.  I use a moisturizer with SPF during the day and one without SPF at night.  I also moisturize my neck and décolleté (upper chest) area. These areas get a great deal of sun and they are often neglected.  Because of this your neck area can also show creases and wrinkles and lose elasticity early.

Protect My Skin
Even though I'm careful with my skin I still love the beach and being outdoors and we have a pool in our back yard. I take extra steps during these sun filled times. I wear a hat, either a ball cap or sun hat when I'm going to be outside without shade.  I wear higher SPF lotion on my face.  At the beach and pool I wear an SPF of  70+.  I also wear full body sunscreen.  If possible I stay in a shaded area like under an umbrella, awning or tree.  Reapplying sunscreen is key when you are in the water or being active. Sweat and water reduce the effectiveness of sunscreen.  You should also reapply every every 2 hours regardless of activity.  This ensures that you have the maximum protection.  I've had several friends that have had skin cancer scares and one even had to have surgery.  My blogger friend Alison (Long Distance Loving) and her friend Danielle started a group called Sun Savvy.  They both had skin cancer scares and are on a mission to educate others. They have some great information on their site.

There are so many great products available now for skin care, SPF and moisturizing.  I couldn't possibly name them all but I'm going to give you the lowdown on what I use daily.

Cleanse - Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser: Recently, my skin has been easily irritated.  I've used Cetaphil on and off for many years and now I'm back on.  I think this time for good. It has cleared up my skin and still removes my make up thoroughly  without drying.  I use it along with Mary Kay Oil Free Eye Make-Up remover (an Allure magazine beauty winner).

SPF - Neutrogena:  I love Neutrogena SPF lotions.  They work like a charm and don't irritate my skin.  I've been using the sensitive skin formula recently (along with my SPF foundation) for day.  Usually, I swear by the Healthy Defense Liquid Moisturizer.  It's light as a feather and isn't greasy.  Neutrogena has SPF lotions is a wide range of levels and for all types of skin.

Exfolliate - TimeWise® Microdermabrasion Set: This two step process removes all of the dead skin cells and makes my skin feel fresh and smooth without stripping it.  Step one uses dermatologist quality exfoliating particles and step two replenishes and soothes my skin. When my skin is irritated I just use a wash cloth and some Cetaphil cleanser to exfoliate.

Moisturize - Olay Regenerist Micro Sculpting Cream (Fragrance Free):  I love the way this cream has started to smooth some of my deeper facial lines (like the ones on my forehead).  It's gentle but effective. I wear it at night to get the maximum benefit. This product has gotten raves from Allure magazine readers for quite a few years.

Protect - Sun Hats: My favorite hat is from the San Diego Hat company.  I bought it in Key West many years ago and I take it on every beach vacation.  It's flexible and easy to pack. I can fold it or stuff it with clothes. It doesn't take up much room in my suitcase. I've spotted similar San Diego Hat company hats at Marshalls and Loehmann's. My fedora is from Target (a few seasons ago). They have a great selection this year.  I'm always tempted to add to my collection.

Doing right by your skin may seem like it takes a ton of time but really it doesn't.  It's a habit for me after all of these years and when someone is shocked at my age, I'm really glad I took that time.  Those 15 or 20 minutes you spend now will pay off in the future.

The title of today's post is a line from the song, "Forever Young" by Rod Stewart.

Casual Weekend - DIY style

I'm sure you remember that I posted a preview of my DIY Duck Tape Clutch last week.  Well I thought you'd like to see the finished product via this little outfit post.  The cold weather is kicking in and weekends call for layering and boots.  I just found this great hat on the sale shelf at Target for only $8 and I had to throw it on as well.  Hats are the best for a bad hair day or an "I didn't feel like washing and drying my hair" day, don't ya' think?

Even Thrifty in the Heat

One of the reasons that I love thrifting is that you can buy an item with one intention, you get it home and find all sorts of possibilities. I bought this vest last September on my trip to NYC. It's a men's wool, suit vest.  I thought I'd wear it during the winter to jazz up my plain sweaters and long sleeve tees.  The weather the summer has been extra hot.  I've been looking for ways to spruce up my tanks and light outfits.

Three count them, three thrifted items in this outfit!

Vest - thrifted via Goodwill, Pants - thrifted via Goodwill, Tank - Target,
Shoes - Kohl's, Hat - Eugenia Kim for Target, Bracelets - thrifted via Finders Keepers, F21 and Gift
Watch Pendant - Gift

Thrift | Everybody, Everywear

I'm showing this outfit again as part of a blogger challenge on Everybody Everywear.  This month, bloggers are showcasing their thrifted outfits. I'm also going to make a big announcement tomorrow about thrifting and budgeting.

Fashionable Sun Protection

This past weekend, my sister, Mom, and I did a little vintage shopping. We happened upon a few great vintage hats. Unfortunately, they were the right price but the wrong size. As luck would have it, in a couple weeks, we'll be able to pick up some great vintage inspired hats at Target.

My love for Target's designer collaborations knows no bounds. They are great, inexpensive ways to have designer style at affordable, fiscally responsible prices. I love hats and beginning April 18 (through June 28), Target launches it's collaboration collection with hat designer, Eugenia Kim.

Kim's fabulous designer hats, cost upwards of $100 each. She designs lots of different styles and colors for her high end line. Her Target collection includes a broad range of styles as well. This Engineer's Cap at $14.99 is a steal.

It is almost identical to a her higher line Marissa hat that sells for $195.

Some of my other favorites from the Target collection include the mint green fedora and the striped cloche.

Both the fedora and cloche retail for $16.99. There are twelve hats in the collection, including four fedoras, two engineer caps, three cloches, and three sun hats. Each is made in a lightweight summer fabric or straw. They are great ways to protect your face from the summer sun and much more fun than adding more sunscreen.
