Brights and Sparkle to Warm Your Winter - OPI Nicki Minaj Collection

OPI is partnering with flamboyant singing sensation Nicki Minaj for their January collection.  Nicki's style is bright, sparkly and over the top. She has a penchant for brightly colored wigs and crazy costumes.

The collection suits her style well and will bring some brightness to those dark winter months. It contains six shades, including two glitter shades and a new shatter shade.

Save Me

My personal favorites are the Purple Shatter, Fly, and Metallic 4 Life.  I love the idea of layering the Purple Shatter over silver.  The charcoal glitter of Metallic 4 Life will be a staple in repertoire and Fly is a fun new take on the teal/aqua trend.

I'm Obessed Thank You Very Much - Blue Shatter Part 1

I grabbed two bottles of the new OPI Blue Shatter shades recently. I got the Blue and Navy Shatter shades. I thought I'd try the blue first. It's a cool electric blue shade. I paired it with Birthday Babe which is a light silver shade.

I love the effect. It's bright, fun and summery. Perfect for a summer vacation.

I will be trying out the Navy Shatter soon.

I'm Obesessed Thank You Very Much - NEW OPI Shatter Follow Up

This past weekend, I picked up two of the new OPI Shatter shades, Red and Silver at my local Ulta store.  I hurried home to experiment a little and tried them out with different base options. Currently, I'm wearing the silver shade with Mermaid's Tears from their Pirate's of the Caribbean collection because I love the Spring combination. Silver is a neutral. I'm sure this shade will be used often.

Next up, the red will work into the rotation. I'm even considering a Shatter pedicure for summer.

What do you think of the new shades?

I'm Obsessed Thank You Very Much - OPI Shatter

Entry one of a new feature: "I'm Obsessed Thank You Very Much". The title is a quote from St. Elmo's Fire. My teen of the 80's self loves that movie. I find that I focus on an item or style and really become obsessed with incorporating it into my own style.

Back in December I started seeing ads in magazines for a new nail polish by OPI, Shatter.  It's a black top coat that you put over a contrasting color. As it dries, it cracks and reveals the color underneath. I searched in stores during December and January but couldn't find out when it would be available. Magazines always get products and ads early to build excitement. The manager of my local Ulta told me the polish wouldn't be released until January 21st. I got it the first day it was available and have been wearing it ever since with all sorts of colors. I LOVE IT!!

Wet n Wild - Rain Check, OPI - Shatter

Step One
Choose your base coat. I've found that lighter colors show up better but any bright color will do. That's the fun part of this polish. I chose, Wet n Wild's Rain Check because it was a fun blue and I thought it would show up well.

Step Two
Paint your base coat and let it dry thoroughly.  If your base polish isn't completely dry, Shatter won't crack properly.  Also make sure there are no oils or residue on your base coat. I wash my hands, then wipe them dry and buff the base a little with a soft cloth before applying Shatter.

Step Three
Apply Shatter top coat. You'll need to work quickly. Making only one pass per nail section is best. If you go back over it, Shatter gets clumpy. I find a medium coat works best. It should be opaque but not super thick. This polish dries incredibly fast.

I painted this nail and this shot was taken within 10 seconds. You can see how quickly it starts to dry.

Shatter dries matte.  If you want it to last or look shiny, you'll have to use a top coat.  The top coat also enhances the brightness of your base coat.

Here is a step by step demo by OPI.

Shatter is sold out in many stores. You can find it online by doing a search for OPI Shatter. I'm hoping that because of it's popularity, OPI will consider producing it in other colors.

Nine in the Afternoon

30 for 30 is really teaching me some things.  I should have given a little more thought to some of my outfit combinations before picking my 30 items. I have to confess this is my least favorite outfit combo so far and the pictures aren't my faves.  At least my little gnome friend lends a little laughter to the picture. I bought that little guy as a gift for my Honey because he was so cute.

That look on my face is saying, "Honey, please take the picture already." It looks a little like I smelled something bad.

Sweater - Ralph Lauren thrifted, Shirt - Converse One for Target, Pants - Lane Bryant,
Boots - Dolce Vita for Target, Ring - craft fair, Bracelets - Saks off 5th and Target, Nails - Revlon and OPI

This pearl bracelet was originally sold as a necklace. I wear it both ways. Items that can do double duty are favorites for me.

I've owned this simple silver ring for many years. My good friend Kate has set her sights on it and made me promise that I'll give it to her if I'm ever tired of it. The nail polish is a new addition. I used Revlon Silver Screen as the base and OPI Shatter over top.  OPI Shatter is a new product and I'm sure I'll be using it often. I've heard that it's sold out in lots of stores. Lots of online companies are jacking up the price. I found it for $7.99 here. If you're adventurous with your polish it's a great addition. You get this cool effect in one simple step.
