I'm Obsessed Thank You Very Much - Brow Bar Sunglasses

Maybe it's this cold weather that won't quit, or my love of vintage looks but I can't stop obsessing over sunglasses with a brow bar. I've spotted them on a few fashionistas, while checking out fashion week street style and can't stop thinking about owning a pair. The vintage styles are great but I especially like the modern take on this trend. I am 100% sure that I will own a pair of these sunnies by the time warm weather hits. I already have quite a large collection of sunglasses, but nothing with a brow bar. I'd love to add a designer pair (the Dior pair below center) but a more economical pair will likely make their way to my collection. Since these are definitely trend shades and not a classic style, bargain options will be my picks. As luck would have it, I even found a look for less version of the Dior pair!

I may have squealed a little inside when I saw these white sunnies with blue lenses and a gold bar. They just look like summer to me. At $14.95 (plus free shipping) they are a great bargain. The severe cat eye of this pair by Quay is statement making. Round and blue, I may have had a pair like this in the 80's. I'm a sucker for mirrored shades and this pink and orange version is cool. The clear frames on this pair look sophisticated. The mirror lenses on this tortoise shell pair give them a little extra oomph. Green, combined with the unique brow bar of this pair from Asos make them stand out from the pack. The black and blue pair from Steve Madden lean more toward classic.

I fell hard for this pair (center) by Dior, but at $505, they are quite a bit more than I'm willing to pay. As luck would have it, I found this pair when searching.  They are a great look for less, at $12.99! I've already added them to my shopping cart. Can you guess which one below is the Dior pair and which is the look for less? Hard to tell isn't it?

Dior left, Look for less right

Obsession satisfied! What are you obsessed with for spring?

Met Gala 2013 - The Good and Bad

The Met Gala is the annual anything goes gala.  It's a who's who of celebs that gives them a chance to wear avant-garde ensembles. This year the theme was Punk: Chaos to Couture.  Frankly I was surprised there weren't more outlandish outfits.  Here are just a few of the highlights, good and bad.

Blake Lively in Gucci Premiere

Giselle Bundchen in Anthony Vacarello

Jamie King in Top Shop

Jennifer Lawrence in Dior

Katy Perry in Dolce & Gabbana

Kirsten Dunst in Rodarte

Madonna in Givenchy

Mary Kate Olsen in vintage Chanel

Sienna Miller in Burberry

Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles Deacon (dress) and Philip Tracey (hat)
Ashley Greene in Marchesa

Swimming With the Fishes

The Golden Globes where held last night in Los Angeles and as usual the red carpet wear was much more interesting than the show itself. Congratulations to the winners, now let's talk fashion.

The shape of the Globes was not a sphere. It was a fish. Kicking off the award season, the trend of the mermaid gown prevailed. There were lots of color options and styles but the basic shape was there in droves or schools, as it were.

Hands down the most beautiful mermaid gown and starlet of the night was Eva Longoria. She looked like Hollywood Royalty in a red satin Reem Acra gown.

Kate Beckinsale chose a neutral for her look in a ruffled J. Mendel gown. J. Mendel can make any woman look fantastic and his job was easy with a figure like Kate's.

There were also the quirky mermaids. Debra Messing's navy, ruffled halter, Vera Wang provided a bit of a different look.

Sandra Bullock, like Kate, chose ruffles in a cream colored Dior.

Drew Barrymore wore John Galliano for Dior in blue. Leave it to Drew to show us her individuality with hair and accessories. Her stylist needs to put down those hot rollers. Nothing like big hair to age a woman unnecessarily. She's blonde because she's been filming the dramatic version of the cult classic Grey Gardens with Jessica Lange. The red clutch was a fantastic touch.

Minus the tail, Rita Wilson stuck to the trend of the night in her metallic gown with the fish scale pattern.

Renee Zellwegger wore a love it or hate it, Carolina Herrera. You have to give it to Renee. She is loyal. Carolina is her go to designer for awards shows.

Lots of critics may say that Renee was the worst dressed of the night. I will have to disagree. The worst dressed of the night was definitely Jennifer Lopez. I'm sure she was just trying to prove that she's still hot after having twins. She definitely is still hot. However, that dress just doesn't do her justice and muffin top isn't flattering on anyone. Her dress by Marchesa doesn't fit the trend but I couldn't close this post without addressing the travesty.

Jennifer isn't known for her sedate fashion choices. I'm sure everyone remembers the Versace dress she wore to the 2000 Grammys.

It is eight years and two children later. You can't and shouldn't go back.

If you're lucky enough to have an invitation to the Oscars or even an Innaugural Ball. This Amsale gown is classic and a modified mermaid style which is much more forgiving for most of us. It's also on sale for $131.90 at Saks! Classic style at a great price.

If you have an extra ticket to one of the Innaugural balls, just let me know. I'm an excellent date and I already have a classic, black, ball skirt ready.
