Scenes from the Beach 2014

I'm sad that our vacation is ending tomorrow. I love the beach and the sand and the fun. It's been a relaxing time and the forecast today is calling for rain. We'll spend our time doing a little shopping. There are lots of fun memories of our week.

I'm Obsessed Thank You Very Much - Rose Gold

I've found myself reaching for my few rose gold pieces often. I'm loving that they mix so well with silver or gold. The pretty pink color is so warm and summery and you know how I love metallics. I have found myself wanting a few more rose gold items to add to my collection.

I'm Obsessed - Rose Gold

Click on the items above for buying information.

I saw these fantastic Ray-Ban aviators on some fellow bloggers. Then I lucked out and found them on amazon. They were a great price and I love them. It's hard to tell but they have the most amazing rose gold mirror lenses (even though they are called Copper Flash). The rose gold Stella and Dot Renegade bracelet has been on my must list for a while. I'd love to get a rose gold monogram necklace. This Rebecca Minkoff cross body bag would be a fun addition to my summer wardrobe. Essie polish in Penny Talk is a fun metallic to add to your collection. Just be sure to use a ridge filling base coat because the metallic finish shows every ridge and flaw. I love the geometric shapes of these rings. This belt would look so pretty on a white dress. You know my obsession with oxfords. These by Cole Haan would be a perfect addition to my collection. The Manolos are a pipe dream but I love them. The flat sandals are a pretty and more realistic option.

Do you love rose gold as much as I do?

Insta Monday

The last few weeks have been a blur and I have to admit, it won't be slowing down anytime soon. I'm going to push myself to make time for blogging this week. Between work, other obligations and wedding planning I'm a bit overwhelmed. I've been trying to tweet and post on Facebook and Instagram.  I haven't be great at those either but we are just a little than a month away from the wedding.  Life and blogging will be back on track soon. Well, in about 6 weeks.  It may get worse before it gets better. Since my phone has been my constant companion, I have managed to take pictures lately.

My favorite new piece of jewelry.
For Christmas, my Mom gave me a monogram ring. I've been wanted one like this for years and this style is very hard to find.  Signet styles abound but this cut out version is elusive.  I'm just noticing in this blown up version, how dry my winter hands look.  I need exfoliation desperately.

Love my new floral pants that match my red suede pumps from Talbots!
Another item I've been searching for is a great pair of floral pants. In fact, these pants to be exact.  I thought I would never find them but this is the very reason I'm in love with true outlet stores.  I first spied these on friend and fellow blogger Allison of Wardrobe Oxygen (here and here). As you can see she bought her pants last spring.  I was sure I'd never find them, since they were sold out online, in my size.  Well, floral pants are still going strong and I found them at the Talbots outlet last weekend!

First try at a bouquet for our Women of Honor.
You knew I'd throw in some kind of wedding thing.  All of the last minute things really are dominating my thoughts lately.  I spied a Christmas ball wedding bouquet on Facebook a while back and loved the idea.  This was my first try. I will be making some changes but I like the look enough to know we are going with this type of design.

A fun new 3D gift from Klout and Geico.
When you are blogging you get all sorts of fun gifts.  This one came in the mail a couple weeks ago. It was a gift through Klout from Geico (of all places).  I love this cool, 3D stand up of my twitter handle and blog name.  It's going in my office in a place of honor.

Screaming Skull necklace from JewelMint.
In order to reduce my monthly spending, I've cancelled all of my "subscriptions".  I won't be getting monthly goodies from JewelMint any longer.  This cool skull necklace (Screaming Skull Necklace) was my final purchase.  It's a fun addition to my jewelry and it's the right size to wear on any occasion.  Not too big, not too small.

After wedding makeover project - thrifted bedside tables.
I've been hunting for new bedside tables for months now.  I say new but I've been checking the furniture section of every thrift store I've walked into, over the last six months.  Our current bedside tables are from IKEA.  I love IKEA but I've had them forever (about 12 years).  They've seen better days and we needed a change.  Thrift stores can yield high quality furniture just begging for a makeover.  This weekend, while looking for more glasses for our wedding table decor, {msL} and I found these bedside tables.  The tops are scratched and the drawers were dusty inside, like they'd been stored for a long time.  At closer inspection I realized they were solid wood, no press board, with dovetailed drawers (a sign of good quality).  They weren't cheap, at $25 each, but they were a bargain for solid wood bedside tables that had everything we wanted (drawers and a book shelf).  I found them at Goodwill in Alexandria, my favorite local Goodwill. The store was even running a deal. If you spent $50 or more, they'd give you a coupon good for 50% your purchase over the next week.  Score!  I haven't decided how to make them over yet, but I definitely won't get to them until after April 13.

I hope your shopping, fashion and thrifting is going well.  Happy Monday!

Frugal Fashion Friday - GOLD Rush under $50

Normally gold isn't my first choice but this week I spied the sweater below and then did a little window shopping on the Stella & Dot website.  There are some amazing gold pieces in their new collection.  Since it's Friday, I thought I'd stick with our frugal theme and find some great gold items under $50.

Frugal Fashion Friday - Gold Rush under $50

Cross body bags are a weekend staple for me.  At under $15 this one from Target is perfect.  These statement earrings from Stella and Dot are amazing! They're gold but I love that it's almost an accent to the creamy stones and the rhinestones. Over the summer I scored a pair of sunglasses almost exactly like these from Urban Outfitters. They are a fun alternative to my standard black frames. The gold beads of this Stella and Dot necklace look like stones and I love that it compliments the Foundation bracelet (with tiny green stones) without looking too matchy matchy. This green and gold cocktail ring from Stella and Dot is equal parts vintage and cool.  All of the Stella and Dot pieces work well together.  The chunky heel and cap toe of these blue suede pumps make them look like a pair my Mom owned in the 60's.  The bright blue is fun.  I've been on the hunt for a new iPhone case.  These used combined or alone create five different looks.  The cut out gold cover is so sophisticated.

Searching for all of these fun items has given me a new appreciation for gold.  Do you love gold?

I'm Obsessed Thank You Very Much - Skulls

The punk, rock n' roll vibe has always been something I've loved.  Lately, I'm more obsessed with skulls than ever.  I can't help it. They are fun and creepy all at the same time. You can incorporate them in unexpected ways without looking like you are going to a Misfits show.  I wear my skull ring and bracelet to work with my pencils skirts and blazers.  I know that wouldn't work in every office but honestly, most people don't notice and I love wearing them.

I'm Obsessed with Skulls

There are lots of budget options but I had to throw in some Alexander McQueen shoes and my favorite Wendy Brandes ring.  Click on the pictures above to get all of the details. I'm in love with the Butler & Wilson clutch.  They have an amazing collection of crystal skull pieces.  There was no way to include them all. The DIY skull cut out t-shirt is on my to do list.  Such an easy way to wear a skull.  I'm sure people will do lots of double takes.

What's your latest obsession?

Fall 2012 Runway Trends - Brocade & Embroidery

Another installment in the Fall 2012 Runway Trend series, today we are focusing on the brocade and embroidery trend.  I've heard this trend referred to as brocade, embroidery and baroque.  No matter what you call it, the trend focuses on detailed stitched patterns and luxurious fabric. My favorite is the brocade skirt.  It's beautiful and versatile.  Dress it up with a blouse and heels or down with a t-shirt and flats. You can also carry the trend into jewelry with a statement necklace or a beautiful ring or cuff.

Fall 2012 Runway Fashion Trends - Brocade & Embroidery

A pretty brocade dress will be timeless.  With a simple change of shoes and accessories, you will be able to update it for years to come.  A single brocade or embroidered piece can be the stand out of your entire outfit.  I own the Alexandria necklace by Stella & Dot (upper right corner).  I wear it constantly to work with my dress clothes and on the weekend with a t-shirt and jeans.  Every time I put it on, someone asks me about it.  You can even make your brocade piece look rock n' roll, just add that other fall trend, leather.

How will you be wearing this trend?

Frugal Fashion Friday - Fall Lust List

Today I'm taking a break from the fall trends to tell you what is on my list of wants.  Some of the items are trends and some are just things I love.  Not all of the items are frugal buys but I will tell you how I plan to get them for a bargain. Today I'm also linking up to Friday's Fancies on Long Distance Loving.

Fall Lust List - Friday's Fancies
Click on the pictures above to see the details.

Navy Blazer - This classic item will take me everywhere.  I can dress it up or down and it will never go out of style.  I'll be hitting all of my favorite thrift stores and discount stores to hunt for a classic navy blazer.

Leather (Faux Leather) Skirt - A pleated leather skirt has been on my list for a couple of seasons.  Leather is a huge trend this fall.  Faux leather is affordable and if you choose a classic style like pleated or a pencil skirt you can keep it for years. I will be using a discount code to get a great deal on this skirt.

Colored Skinny Jeans - These Bordeaux colored skinny jeans are right on trend.  I scored these NYDJ at Nordstrom Rack for $60 earlier this week! The rich color is great for fall and a fun alternative to blue jeans.

Statement Necklace - I'm in love with the Pegasus Necklace from Stella & Dot.  The layered feathers are beautiful and an unexpected way to do a statement necklace.  I will be using some of my trunk show credits for this fantastic necklace.

Leopard Accented BagBlack and leopard combined with the school bag tote style of this bag is perfect for me.  I'll be able to stash all of my essentials and it will still look great.  Even better, this bag from Urban Outfitters is on sale right now!

Statement Cocktail Ring -  If you aren't in the mood to wear a ton of jewelry, a fantastic cocktail ring is the ticket.  There are so many things to love about the Stella & Dot Starstruck ring.  This one is definitely on my list of wants.  I'll be spending some of my trunk show credits on this ring.

Studded Ladylike Pumps - The studs on these ladylike pumps are unexpected. The shoes are very similar to the Valentino studded pumps but at only $100, I can actually afford them!

Hope you have time to hit up some early fall sales this weekend.  I'm attending fashion even number three of the week, on Saturday.  I'll have recaps next week.  What is on your fall wish list?

Happy Friday Real Girls!

Stella & Dot via Instagram

I've mentioned before that I'm partnering with Stella & Dot and stylist Kristin Biggs to bring you some fun new jewelry.  Kristin was kind enough to lend me some pieces to wear and photograph for upcoming posts and articles.  I thought I'd share with you some of the items I've been wearing and how I've been wearing them.

From the top left...

  • Sidewinder Ring - I love this ring!! It's hands down one of my favorite Stella & Dot pieces. The rose gold is of the moment. It's also bold and a little dangerous but pretty at the same time.
  • Bangles - The Lindsay, the Eleanor, the Carrie, and the Serpent.  I loved wearing these colors mixed. It was fun.
  • Femme Fatale Necklace and the Nouvelle Ring - these were a gift from the lovely Kristin.  I've been wearing them constantly. I love the chunky chains of the Femme Fatale and the rugged cuts of the Nouvelle.  You can wear them with everything.
  • Stacked Bracelets - (beginning at my wrist) The Tribute bracelet, the Renegade bracelet (in gold), the Nugget Wrap bracelet, the Renegade (in silver), the Carrie bangle (in white, set of three).  I love mixing metals and textures.  This is a great combination.
  • Sparkle and Metal - The Luna Wrap bracelet and the Tribute bracelet are pretty worn together or separately.  Again, I love the mix of metals. Fun and not expected.
  • Sidewinder Earrings - A great compliment to the Sidewinder ring without being too matchy.  I like that they are studs but they aren't boring by any means.  They are definitely a statement.
I love Stella & Dot for the quality and the variety of pieces.  There is something for everyone and every style.  If you're like me and love all sorts of different styles, you can experiment and try out new looks.

I'm going to be hosting a Stella & Dot Trunk Show later this month.  If you live in the DC area and are interested in attending, please send me an email at realgirlrunway@live.com.  If you don't live in the DC area, you can still participate by clicking this link. Select the pieces you'd like to order and they'll be shipped to you directly.  I will be earning some jewelry via this trunk show and I'll be sharing the wealth with all of you via a give away coming soon.  I can't wait to share it with you!

What is your favorite Stella & Dot piece?

Easy Weekend with Flair ala JewelMint

When I was younger I would haul ridiculously large suitcases with me for weekend getaways.  I'd take a ton of clothes and only wear a few items. Years of travelling, hauling my own suitcase and TSA restrictions have turned me into a traveller that can pack for a weekend in a small carry-on bag. That means easy to pack items, double duty clothes and accessories to spice up my looks.

You all know my love and obsession with JewelMint. I love their jewelry. Every month I have to decide how many of the new pieces I can afford.  When my friends at JewelMint offered me the chance to choose three of their amazing pieces to style for a weekend trip, I jumped at the chance. Inspired by the Egyptian influences in some of the July pieces, I picked a ring, earrings and a necklace.  The pieces I chose were the Scarab ringIsis earrings, and the Farrah necklace.  One of my favorite pieces of jewelry is a vintage scarab bracelet given to me by my dad and the Scarab ring is a modern take on that bracelet.

When choosing the items to style, I wanted pieces that could be worn together or separately and I love the possibilities in the Farrah necklace.  I styled three looks using all three pieces. Since I received my new jewelry I've worn them toether but I've also worn these stand out pieces alone at various times.

For a day time look I paired a simple white tee with a flowy skirt, scarf and sandals. The JewelMint pieces compliment the look and give a little bit of an Egyptian touch.

Tee - Old Navy, Skirt - Lane Bryant, Scarf - Goodwill, Sandals - Simply Vera Vera Wang for Kohl's

Combining a halter style tankini, a sarong and the JewelMint pieces, I created a chic look for a pool party or the beach. I decided to wear the Farrah necklace as a bracelet to give the look a bit of a different flair.

Farrah Necklace as a bracelet, Scarab Ring - c/o JewelMint

Inspired by the caftans of Morocco I chose a comfortable maxi dress for an evening look. I added some strappy wedges and the JewelMint pieces but tied the Farrah necklace as a bit of a choker.

Moment of Lust: Alexander McQueen Knuckle Clutch

In keeping with my recent obsession with tough, punk, industrial fashions, my lastest lust is the Alexander McQueen Knuckle Clutch. It isn't a recent addition to the fashion scene. I've adored it for some time. When you see the cost, you'll understand why I've only admired it from afar.

There are so many reasons to love this special clutch. The iridescent color is fresh. The sparkles and skulls are so 80's punk. When carrying it to a party, it will be so easy to hold onto the bag. Not to mention the fact that it has built in jewelry.

This version of the clutch is available on Net-A-Porter.com for $1,595. Other versions are available from Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, Zappos and Alexander McQueen for $1,895 - $2,295.  Even if I thought it was a good idea to spend that much money on one tiny bag, it would still be my clothing budget for a few years. I don't think I could give up shoes and all other new clothes for one clutch.

I'm working on my own DIY version of this bag. Look for it soon.

Across the Pond

European women always seem to have an amazing sense of effortless style.  Fashions in Europe are most times also a little ahead of what we see and what is available in U.S. stores.  Thank goodness for the internet. Some great European sites and stores (affordable stores) now have U.S. sites.  One of my favorites is asos.  I’ve mentioned them in previous posts.  Their trend setting items and fashion finds are great.  Another reason I adore this site is that in addition to women’s sizes, they also offer, petite, maternity and plus sizes (as well as men's)!

They are offering FREE SHIPPING both ways to U.S. customers!  It’s almost unheard of to get free international shipping. The only, even slightly negative thing I’ve found is that it can take a little longer to get your order than through a stateside company. Items must go through customs. Just go to http://us.asos.com/ to find some fashion forward finds and great deals.

I’ve gotten some great items lately…

Biker Maxi Dress                                 Dip Dyed Tank
$28                                                       $10
I'm looking forward to wearing both of these as transitional pieces.  I can wear the dress into fall and winter with tights, boots, and a sweater.  I'll wear the tank over long sleeve tops.

Brogues
$50

Desert Boots
$38
With a little suede spray, these shoes will be great year round.

Hinged Metal Armour Ring
$16
Of course I had to get a little jewelry. I've seen knuckle rings on lots of fashionistas and had to get one for myself.
Take a little shopping time and go to asos. You won't be sorry. There are lots of great deals in their clearance section.

Below are a few of my favorites.

Gear Bangle

Shopbop carries most of the line as well as some exclusive pieces. Prices range from $30 - $213.  There are lots of affordable items.
